Doin' a Little Dance :-)
Here's my entry with the next line added:
Elizabeth squeezed her eyes tight and turned her face away from the wicked-looking blade. She’d seen what it could do. Knew first hand the destruction it could bring.
The death.
“Please,” she whispered, a tear slipping down her cheek. “I...I can’t do this.”Cold steel grazed the skin exposed by her low bodice and she flinched. Her tormentor shifted closer in the confined carriage.
Seeing all these great lines really makes me think about the importance of each and every word. Even if it seems insignificant on its own, a word, a phrasing, can make or break you. Just as an artist must choose the right shade to perfect his or her masterpiece, so too does the writer. The only difference being, our pallet contains words rather than acrylics or oils. But, the concept is the same. We have a vision we wish...no, need to share and we paint it with our words.
Do you have any authors that know how to paint like that? How about some that don't?

Congrats, Sandy! Awesome news. :)
As for writers who paint with words...JR Ward comes to mind. Her stories are so vivid.
Wow! Congrats on still being in it! I totally agree that words DO matter. Its amazing what a little bit of phrasing or painting does for similar sets of words.
Elisa ~ Thanks! I've heard a lot about JR Ward. I've been holding off on reading her stuff because I don't want to get sucked in to another series just yet. My TBR list is already a mile long. LOL.
Cassie ~ It is so nerve-wracking and exciting to check Karin's blog...um, a hundred times a day. Man, I can't imagine what her stats reflect on a Monday afternoon. LOL.

words create worlds.
Very succinctly put, Billy. How rich and full those worlds are, is entirely up to the author. Anna Campbell, who will be guest blogging here on March 31st, posted about this very topic at the Avon FanLit page.
